Hero wife of soldier stabbed outside barracks sang in TV choir and met Prince William

The hero wife of a soldier who was stabbed outside his barracks was a member of a military wives choir and sang on TV.

Eileen Teeton rushed out of her home to see her partner Lieutenant Colonel Mark Teeton, 47, being set upon by a masked attacker wielding two huge kitchen knives.

Her piercing screams begging for the attacker to leave him alone were caught by a neighbour’s Ring doorbell.

She even tried to pull the attacker off her husband as he lay soaked in blood on the ground.

One neighbour said: ‘The attacker stabbed him about 12 times. This was with two kitchen knives, about nine to ten inches long.

‘His wife tried to pull the attacker away. The attacker didn’t want her though, just the soldier.’

Anthony Esan, 24, has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with Lt Col Teeton’s attempted murder.

The father-of-two was airlifted to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Mrs Teeton has been described as a ‘lovely lady’ who is part of the Brompton and Invicta Military Wives Choir.

She even appeared on ITV show Lorraine in 2020.

A friend said: ‘She was in the military wives choir. Lovely lady, I only found out who it was today. She was always popping into the community centre, doing all her stuff there.

‘As soon as I heard the wife jumped on him to save her husband, I immediately thought of her, I didn’t know it was her, but she’s the one who came to mind.’

Mrs Teeton met Prince William while living in Canada in 2011 soon after amrrying Kate Middleton.

She wrote on Facebook: ‘It was a long wait and at about 5.30 they arrived. As he shook my hand I said congratulations on his wedding, so he asked if I watched on tele. Obviously told him we were there but too far back down the mall to see anything.’

At least £8,000 has been donated to a fundraising appeal set up for charity Combat Stress, an organisation set up by Lt Col Teeton for veteran’s mental health.

The soldier took part in the D-Day challenge, initially setting up the target of £1,750.

But the page has now been widely shared online, meaning donations have soared to more than £8,500.

Alex Reynolds, 38, who lives near the scene, said he heard screams and went outside to see a man wearing a cream camouflage military uniform lying on the ground, surrounded by people trying to help.

Mr Reynolds’ Ring doorbell footage captured the screams, with someone heard shouting: ‘What the hell are you doing?’

Another witness, who lives near the Brompton Medical Centre that is close to the scene, described the officer’s wife asking for medical help.

Anthony Esan, 24, was arrested at his home in Rochester just over half an hour after the attack. Several knives were also seized from the address.

The motive for the attack is unclear, but Kent Police Acting Chief Superintendent Richard Woolley said police are ‘exploring a number of lines of inquiry’: ‘These include the possibility this incident was mental health-related as well as any links the suspect may have with the location of the assault.’
