BBC drama Sherlock was hugely popular when it first hit viewers' TV screens ten years ago - but it was all over far too fast, with the show's final episodes airing in 2017.

What have the actors been up to since leaving the show behind? Naturally, the most famous character to shape the series - Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes himself - was always going to have a glittering future after his detective thriller performances wowed the nation.

After scooping an Emmy Award for Sherlock, he was honoured with another major accolade just a year later, as his title role in the mini-series Patrick Melrose won him a BAFTA. The 2018 hit was based on the semi-autobiographical novels of Edward St Aubyn.

Elsewhere in TV, he subsequently landed a role as Dominic Cummings in Channel 4's Brexit: The Uncivil War. He's also had success on the big screen, including channelling Dr Strange for the Marvel Comics adaptation and reprising his role in blockbusters such as Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

Other big hitters include 1917 and The Courier. Meanwhile, despite the massive popularity of Benedict as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he isn't the only Sherlock actor to have a history with Marvel.

Enter Martin Freeman, who has had success since the show via the role of Paul in Sky comedy Breeders.

He's also channelled real-life detective Stephen Fulcher in A Confession, retelling the true story of the murder investigation into the tragic Sian O'Callaghan's death.

Meanwhile, Una Stubbs hadn't always been a big name, but after getting her big break as Sherlock's Mrs Hudson, she went on to land roles in Call the Midwife, The Durrells, and Murder on the Blackpool Express.

Mark Gatiss isn't merely renowned for his acting role as Mycroft Holmes, but co-created the Sherlock reboot, along with Steven Mofatt.

The same year Sherlock ended, he delighted fans with new episodes of A League of Gentleman, before reappearing in Dr Who and even leading documentaries about Dracula, highlighting his passion for the horror genre.

However, currently perhaps the most high-profile star ever to come from Sherlock is Amanda Abbington, whose 45-minute long interview with Krishnan Guru-Murthy on Channel 4 on Wednesday night - and subsequent appearance on Lorraine Kelly's ITV show today (July 25) - have made waves.

The 2023 Strictly star, who withdrew from the show early due to "mild PTSD", made claims that she has had success with 99 per cent of her showbiz roles and "loves" her job - but struggled with Giovanni Pernice as he was unusually "mean" and "cruel" - as the actress accused the dancer of inappropriate behaviour, allegations he has denied.

Since Sherlock, she's also been seen in big hitters like Mr Selfridge, Netflix's Safe, Agatha Christie's Crooked House and I Hate Suzie with Billie Piper.

She even appeared in Reggie Yates' Make Me Famous, which explores the psychological impact for those appearing on reality TV - especially when unprepared for how dramatically it can change your life.

Amanda has also been famed for her stage performances in The Son and God of Carnage, while she's also set to channel a trauma victim in the upcoming play When It Happens To You.
