Elite season eight has arrived on Netflix but its return is bittersweet, given that this will be the last series at Las Encinas.

It has been nine months since the gripping teen drama was last seen but finally, Elite has returned with season eight dropping on Thursday, July 25, on Netflix.

With all eight episodes dropping in one go on the streamer, many subscribers are expected to binge-watch the series over the weekend, saying goodbye to the drama for good.

Why is Elite ending after season 8?

Elite was renewed for an eighth outing by Netflix in July 2023 but news of it being the final series came out in October, just a couple of days before the series seven premiere.

While it will be upsetting to see the mysterious and thrilling show reach its conclusion, it was a decision made by its creators, rather than the streamer.

Earlier this year, creator Carlos Montero shed some light on the show ending, stating: “We are shooting the eighth season, which will be the last season of Elite.

“We ended on a high note. Jaime [Vaca, co-showrunner for Season 7], Netflix, and I thought it was time to end it.

“I say this with great regret because it’s been several incredible years in which I’ve met wonderful actors, worked with all the directors we wanted to work with, and had the luxury of having Maribel [Verdu, who plays Carmen] in these last two seasons.”

And going by the season eight synopsis, Elite will certainly be going out with a bang.

The description for Elite season eight reads: “The arrival of siblings Emilia and Héctor Krawietz, leaders of the Las Encinas alumni association, shakes the school's foundations.

“Influential, powerful, corrupt, and corrupters, the Krawietz will scatter chaos wherever they go and destroy the lives of those who fall prey to them.

“Only Omar will be able to face them and will be willing to do anything to see them fall, because, in the end, they represent everything that has always been wrong in Las Encinas.”
