This Morning's Alison Hammond confirms break as she makes announcement minutes into show
ITV's This Morning co-host, Alison Hammond, has surprised her breakfast television audience by revealing she would be taking a personal hiatus away from her presenting commitments. The beloved presenter, alongside Dermot O'Leary, announced the news on air on Thursday.
Despite taking over from regular hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard throughout the summer, Alison will instead be stepping back for a well-earned break. Dermot set the stage for the reveal, sombrely telling viewers: "It's quite sad that tomorrow is going to be our last show for some time."
Alison then confirmed her approaching holiday, stating: "I know, I know, my last day. I'm going on holiday bubs, it's time." Witty as ever, she added: "Alison needs a break", leading Dermot to quip in agreement: "We all need a break."
Alison finished by playfully acknowledging her online critics, saying: "Even YOU need a break from me."
Fans expressed their shock at the announcement via social media, with several Twitter users penning posts such as: "Is Alison leaving for good?" and "It's Alison's last day on #ThisMorning before she goes on a break!"

Feigning worry, Alison enquired: "Are you okay?" which was met with a harsh reply from Dermot, who dismissed her comments: "Shut up! It's the second one, he said it'll come right down", referring to his elevated blood pressure.
Adding another layer to their playful interaction, Alison offered Dermot a chair to rest on, leading to some fun banter before getting back to their normal programme.
"Do you want me to get you a chair?" she asked humorously: "I want to make sure you're alright because you are getting on a little bit. You're okay, don't worry."
Dermot then made a pointed comment, looking directly at his co-star: "I can't imagine where my stress is coming from. I can't imagine!"
Alison then clarified: "We were a little worried so we did another blood test. We did a blood pressure test. While mine was 120 over 70, which is like an athlete, yours was, went down 20, went to 145, which is a little bit high. But don't worry, you'll be okay."
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
