NCIS: Hawaii’s season three home release will feature two new bonus specials never seen before by fans.

Earlier this year, CBS devastated viewers by announcing the NCIS spin-off was coming to an end after just three installments.

Starring Vanessa Lachey as team leader Jane Tennant, the action-packed show introduced a new team based in the South Pacific US state who solved naval crimes.

Unfortunately, following a mixed response from fans, the series won’t be continuing for a fourth season, joining fellow axed offshoots NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans.

Fans will get a chance to enjoy the action all over again when the latest season, which wrapped up in May, gets released as a DVD box set on October 8.

It’s available to pre-order on Amazon Canada already, and US and UK pre-orders are expected to become available soon.

Included in the special features are two exclusive specials lifting the lid on all the goings-on behind the scenes.

The first is titled Ruah’s Rules: Directing NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i. This special will most likely shed light on NCIS: LA star Daniela Ruah’s experience directing the season three episode The Next Thousand.

The second is NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3: The Third Wave, which will probably be an assemblage of general behind-the-scenes moments with the cast and crew.

CBS audiences were saddened by the news of the show’s cancellation, although they still have plenty of NCIS content to look forward to.

The flagship drama will premiere its 22nd season this October, while upcoming spin-offs NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Tony and Ziva are both currently in the works.

Speaking on the network’s decision to bring the Hawaii-set offshoot to an end, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach admitted it was a “really tough call”.

She told Variety: “I’m a big fan of TV first and I sympathise and relate to all the fans out there who are disappointed in the fact that these shows are ending.

“But at the end of the day, our job at CBS is to make those really tough calls.

“We toss and turn and have sleepless nights and have endless discussions but we look at all the numbers.

“We look at what our projections are for the future, we look at where we see opportunities to potentially have even bigger success on the schedule. And we make those tough decisions.”

NCIS season 22 premieres Monday, October 14 on CBS and is available to stream on Disney+.
