Naga Muncetty shut down by Carol Kirkwood over 'boring' comment

BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty was swiftly put in her place by weather presenter Carol Kirkwood during a live broadcast after cheekily branding the weather "boring".

The 49-year-old anchor returned to the iconic red sofa on Thursday (July 25) morning, joining Charlie Stayt to deliver the day's news headlines from around the world.

Meteorologist Carol Kirkwood was invited on air to present the latest weather updates. However, as she wrapped up, Naga remarked: "Carol, I know you love your job and all aspects of the weather, even when its boring."

Carol interjected with a surprised: "Boring?" Undeterred, Naga elaborated: "You know what I mean, when nothing is like happening but I suppose the point is it's good when it's boring because we've seen so many extreme weather events in the UK but even though it might be exciting at the time, it can be concerning."

Naga's co-star replied: "Climate change is real Naga, and we know that and more extreme weather leads to more more extreme influences as a result. It affects so many different aspects of our lives. What is a normal summer these days? What is summer anymore?", reports the Mirror.

This incident follows reports that Naga has been listed among the BBC's top 10 highest-paid stars over the past year, with an annual salary between £345,000 - £349,999.

This reflects a notable £10,000 rise from her previous year's earnings, although it's £20,000 less than her 2022 income.

Naga, 49, has secured a substantial six-figure salary due to her regular hosting duties on BBC Breakfast from Thursday to Saturday, as well as her roles on her self-titled Radio 5 Live programme and Panorama.

In addition to being the highest earner on BBC Breakfast, Naga also ranks as the fourth highest-paid woman at the corporation, following BBC Radio 2's Zoe Ball, Question Time's Fiona Bruce, and radio and The One Show star Lauren Laverne.

Naga's salary significantly surpasses that of her BBC Breakfast co-host Charlie Stayt, which is between £190,000 - £194,999. However, it should be noted that Charlie does not have as many projects outside of the show as Naga does.

Meanwhile, Jon Kay was revealed as the second highest earner on the team, with a salary between £225,000 - £229,999, and Sally Nugent - who co-hosts with Jon every Monday to Wednesday, earns between £195,000 - £199,999.
