BBC Flog It guest was left pleased after selling a valuable item that had a connection to Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. During Wednesday's episode of the BBC hit show, antique experts David Fletcher and James Lewis were in Ushaw in Co Durham as they put a value on a number of antiques and collectibles.

James was joined by guest Janette, who brought in a blue platinum shank diamond ring in hopes of earning some extra cash to go on holiday.

James started off by saying: “So Janette, they say that diamonds are a woman’s best friend. So if you do that to all your best friends, you decide to flog them?”

Janette joked: “If I want to go to Spain, yes.” James jumped in: “Oh lovely.” Janette continued: “I’m hoping it’ll go a little bit towards that.”

James suggested that the ring has a royal connection as he asked: “That is one of the most fashionable types of ring at the moment because who do you know that wore a ring like that?”

Janette guessed: “Princess Diana?” James asked: “And now?” Janette said: “I don’t think they’re as popular are they? I’m not sure."

James revealed that the ring is similar in style to the one Prince William gave Kate, he said: “Ah, come on, keep going with the Princess Diana theme, Kate. William gave Kate Diana's ring so it gave it a new lease of life.

“So this style, that in the 1990s was going a little bit out and a bit old-fashioned, suddenly a couple of years ago they became really fashionable again, so you have timed it well.”

Speaking about the history behind the ring, Janette revealed: “It’s my aunties ring, she got it for Christmas then my grandad died not long after and I was very supportive when she was upset so she said she would leave the ring for me. It’s very sentimental to me - I’ve had it for 24 years so I think it’s time it went to someone.”

Before the item went up for auction, James estimated that it would be worth between £300-500. Host asked: “We have a diamond and sapphire ring in the style of Princess Diana and Kate Middleton. Janette, why are you selling it?”

Janette admitted: “It’s just sitting in a jewellery box doing nothing, I think it’s a shame and it’s going towards a holiday.” In the end, Janette was left thrilled as she managed to get £480 for her ring.
