Corrie fans 'furious' as Leanne takes the Institute 'one-step too far' after tragic news

Corrie: Leanne and Toyah argue about Rowan

Coronation Street viewers have been left 'furious' with Leanne Battersby following her reaction to Toyah Habeeb's shock cancer diagnosis. Toyah (played by Georgia Taylor) was recently told a growth had been found on one of her ovaries and underwent more tests.

But during Monday night's Corrie (July 22), Toyah's worst fear was confirmed when she attended the hospital to hear her results.

Following Leanne Battersby's (Jane Danson) obsession with The Insitute, Toyah decided to go to the appointment alone, worried she would turn to reality coding to help.

As Toyah waited in the hospital, her brother-in-law Nick (Ben Price) showed up to support her. She was told during the consultation that she had germ-cell ovarian cancer that would require an operation to remove the tumour and also learned she may also need to have chemotherapy.

Back at home, Toyah told Leanne about her heartbreaking diagnosis leaving her sister initially upset.

But then Toyah reeled as Leanne insinuated her sister's cancer may have been caused by her "bad energy", and said she would contact Rowan (Emrhys Cooper) to see how 'The Institute' could help.

It led to a row between Leanne and Nick before a distraught Toyah shouted at them to stop before disappearing to her room.

After some thought, Toyah told Nick and Leanne that she didn't want either of them involved in her treatment. "I can [do this alone] and I will," she vowed.

But viewers were left annoyed with Leanne's reaction to Toyah's devastating diagnosis and implied she had gone one step too far with her Institute obsession.

Taking to X, one person wrote: "Leanne your sister needs you right now! Stop involving the institute all the damn time!! #Corrie."

A second exclaimed: "I’m sick and tired of Leanne and that Institute. #corrie", while a third stated: "Oh Leanne you silly cow. Can you not support your sister for 5 minutes without bringing up the institute #Corrie."

Another added: "See how the institute can help”…shut up Leanne…", followed by an angry face emoji.

"Leanne, enough about the bleedin institute, all your sunshine and rainbows ain’t gonna cure Toyah’s cancer #corrie", urged another.

Corrie airs at 7:30pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX
