Former President Donald Trump recently enjoyed a round of golf with LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau, where the pair discussed everything from the sport itself to DeChambeau's nail-biting triumph over Rory McIlroy at the US Open.

In the latest episode of DeChambeau's "Break 50" YouTube series, which sees him attempt to play 18 holes in under 50 strokes from the red tees, Trump made a cameo. During the show, they reminisced about DeChambeau's tense win at Pinehurst.

Trump was particularly intrigued to know if DeChambeau felt "nervous" when facing his four-foot putt on the final hole, to which DeChambeau confessed he was "super nervous."

Trump sympathised, noting that after seeing McIlroy miss a shorter putt, feeling nervous was understandable.

Trump suggested that had DeChambeau missed, it would have been a "tragic" moment for his reputation, highlighting that he would have been subject to "cruel" remarks from detractors following the intense showdown, leaving Rory McIlroy to endure yet another major disappointment.

"They're cruel," remarked Trump. "Some guy that's 150 pounds overweight, he would have said, 'He's a choker, he can't play'."

However, DeChambeau secured the putt, a shot Trump hailed as "perfect". Reflecting on the moment, DeChambeau told Trump: "I stroke it just perfect and it went dead center."

He recalled knowing the putt was good when the ball was only a foot from the hole, already preparing for his celebratory moment.

"I don't want to celebrate too early because I didn't feel comfortable but again, you're not sure until it finally gets in the cup. It was perfect," he explained.

Reflecting on that crucial day, DeChambeau revealed how he maintained his cool under pressure, channelling his training regime. "Here's a funny thing, when I'm in the heat of the moment and I'm over a putt that's that important, I just go straight back to my practice," he admitted to Trump.

He elaborated: "It's all about, 'What am I doing on the golf green to prepare for that day?' and whatever I'm sensing and feeling I just solely focus on that. I take all of my willpower, all my focus, and just go, 'It's just another four-footer'."

DeChambeau acknowledged the magnitude of the moment, admitting that being tagged as a "choker," would have been challenging had he missed the golden opportunity to clinch a major championship. However, he succeeded in turning his extensive rehearsal into remarkable action on the field.

"But I didn't [choke]," he furthered. "I got over it and once I took it back, I went through and I saw him off the face, I pretty much knew it was going to go into it. It was right in the middle, right in the middle."

After his unfortunate experience at the US Open, McIlroy opted for a month-long sabbatical from golf to rejuvenate mentally following his drastic downfall. The star from Northern Ireland was pursuing his fifth major after a dry decade but will have to prolong his ambitions until the forthcoming year.

In addition to discussing his US Open victory with Trump, DeChambeau was also informed by the former president that he has eight hole-in-ones, a tally that surpasses some PGA and LIV Golf stars - including DeChambeau himself.
