Bryson DeChambeau was quizzed on his driver by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump ahead of their highly-anticipated YouTube collaboration. The LIV Golf star invited Trump to play a round of golf as part of his Break 50 series.

DeChambeau’s channel sees him ask sporting stars and celebrities to play alongside him in an 18-hole round. The mission is to attempt to complete the course in under 50 strokes.

A preview of the video was released on DeChambeau’s social media channels on Tuesday. The clip shows Trump, a huge golf fan, quizzing the 30-year-old on his driver after watching him hit balls on the range.

It’s been a journey to get to here, you know?” DeChambeau tells Trump, who asks: “Is that the driver you love? That’s the one you love.”

The 78-year-old, who is bidding for a second term as US President, then asks: “How long can you use a driver before it caves in?”

DeChambeau responds: “Probably two to three weeks. Then it just starts to flatten. You see the curvature on that? It just starts to flatten because the golf ball is pressing against it so much. And then it stops performing.”

Trump, who is likely to face Kamala Harris in the US election after the incumbent President Joe Biden withdrew from the race this week, was impressed by DeChambeau’s shots. After one drive, he turns to the camera and remarks: “That’s very long, folks, that’s very long.”

After another of the golfer’s shots, Trump turns to staff behind the camera and asks: “Is that over the net? Can you see that? I think it’s over the net. That’s over the net. We don’t see that around here.”

DeChambeau has played down suggestions that linking up with Trump so close to the election is a political stunt to aid the Republican nominee’s campaign. He announced that $10,000 (£7,750) will be donated to charity for every stroke under par they make.

“Break 50 with Donald Trump dropping tomorrow on my YouTube channel! On this special episode, we will be donating $10,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project for every stroke we score under par. Stay tuned,” DeChambeau wrote in a statement followed by a side-eye emoji.

“To be clear, this is about golf and giving back to our nation’s veterans, not politics. A few weeks ago I reached out to both parties’ presidential campaigns and Donald Trump was down for the challenge. It is an incredible honour to be able to enjoy a round of golf with any sitting or former president, and all have an open invitation to join me for a round of Break 50 anytime.”
