These trails are closed because of the fire on Ensign Peak

On Monday morning firefighters made progress containing the Sandhurst Fire above Ensign Peak.

Evacuation orders were lifted, but the trails still remain closed. The Ensign Peak trail, the Tunnel Springs Road trail and sections of the Bonneville Shoreline trail near the fire’s perimeter are all closed. City Creek Canyon and all its trails are still closed too.

Signs were put up yesterday informing hikers of the trail closures, according to Brian Trick, a public information officer for the Northern Utah Type 3 Incident Management Team.

“That’s for your own safety,” Trick said at a Monday morning news conference, “as well as just access and ease for firefighters to be able to work and get in there.”

Trail updates will be posted on the Utah Fire Info page on X.
