Standby signal cancelled as tropical storm moves away

The Standby Signal No. 1 was cancelled at 12.20pm on Monday as Tropical Storm Prapiroon no longer posed a threat to Hong Kong. But the Observatory said the rainbands associated with the storm are still affecting the coast of Guangdong. At noon, Prapiroon was about 610 kilometres west-southwest of Hong Kong, and was forecast to move northwest at about 10 kilometres per hour crossing Beibu Wan. The storm earlier made landfall on Hainan Island. The No. 1 signal, who was issued on Saturday evening, had been in effect for more than 37 hours. The Observatory said the weather on Monday will be mainly cloudy with a few squally showers and thunderstorms. It will become very hot with sunny periods in the next couple of days, with temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius or higher over the New Territories.
