In a world filled with misinformation and disinformation, seeing something may not be enough to make you believe it is true. And with images that blur the line between reality and fantasy becoming more mainstream in everyday life, some people say they have become much more careful with how they consume what they see around them, especially on social media. To see just how sceptical people have become, our reporter Elvis Yu conducted an experiment. He asked members of the public to comment on a photo that had once sparked intense debate because it looked too spectacular to be true. He also spoke to experts and an investigative journalist to see what could be done to regain people's trust.
