Si Woo Kim promised to treat his entire team to a classic British meal after hitting a brilliant hole-in-one on day three of The Open. Kim left fans delighted by making an ace from 238 yards at the par-three 17th hole, marking the first hole-in-one of the tournament.

Kim, who is currently 35th in the FedEx Cup standings, was having an up-and-down day in calm weather conditions before his incredible tee shot at the 17th. The ball was right on line and bounced on the edge of the green before rolling into the cup, sparking wild celebrations at the tee box.

The 29-year-old could not believe his luck and high-fived his caddie, Manny Villegas, as the crowd roared its approval. He was also congratulated by playing partner Hideki Matsuyama, with the hole-in-one bringing Kim back to level par for the round and five-over in total.

During an interview with Sky Sports after finishing his round, Kim was asked if he would honour golfing tradition by treating everybody to a drink in the clubhouse.

He replied: "I've got to buy Korean barbecue sometimes, but it's not my country. So, maybe I get fish and chips for my team."

Kim's hole-in-one marked the first time any player at The Open had made an ace on the 17th hole, the longest par-three on the course.

It came two days after Kim was hit with a penalty for moving his ball on the sixth fairway, resulting in an extra shot being added to his total.

Officials were in agreement that Kim's ball moved when he addressed it and it was deemed that he had caused it to move. Despite the one-shot penalty, he managed to save par in emphatic fashion by holing an 18-foot putt.

Shane Lowry remains at the top of the leaderboard on seven under par, with the Irishman three shots clear of Justin Rose, Russell Henley and Daniel Brown in joint-second. Thriston Lawrence, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are currently joint-fifth on three under and will be looking to close the gap before the end of play on Sunday.
