Emmerdale baby bombshell rocks village with dad-to-be gobsmacked amid huge return

Emmerdale: Ella leaves when Liam mentions Meena

Emmerdale is set to be rocked by a huge baby bombshell – with one key character returning to the ITV village.

New soap spoilers have confirmed that Dr Liam Cavanagh is set to have his life uprooted after the death of his teenage daughter Leanna, who was killed by serial killer Meena Jutla. In a new twist, GP receptionist Ella is bolstered by Mandy Dingle’s support and she decides to confide in Liam about her pregnancy.

The news looks set to throw a huge spanner in the works for Liam, who promises Chas they’ll go out for a drink together as he frets over Ella’s return to the Dales.

They’re still clearly holding a torch for one another and the sparks fly, only to be tamped down when Ella suffers a funny turn while walking on Main Street.

Liam’s left gobsmacked to learn she’s not feeling well because she’s pregnant, and ends up blurting the news to Chas in the Woolpack. Liam, meanwhile, is furious – leaving Ella upset.

Chas struggles to support Liam the next day as he tries to come to terms with being a father after the loss of Leanna. But he refuses to answer the door when Ella comes calling.

Later in the week, Mandy is left fuming when she discovers Liam won’t even talk to Ella, and goes round to give him a piece of her mind. Finally willing to hear her out, Liam agrees to see Ella – but demands she take a pregnancy test to ensure she’s telling the truth and not leaving him in the dark again.

Actor Jonny McPherson opened up last month about Liam’s revelation that Ella was a killer – and had served time for the death of her best friend. He said at the time: “Liam is absolutely devastated. I think it’s multifaceted in that he had trusted Ella, he had taken her in when she was homeless but the main thing is the fact she did what she did – as it relates so much to his daughter having been murdered all those years ago. So it is a double betrayal.

“I think this relationship is now almost definitely cooked! I mean never say never but I would say it’s almost definitely it. On multiple occasions Ella could have told him the truth. She had so many chances to open up and tell him about her past but she didn’t.

“And just the fact she moved into his house and they were actually cohabiting. He was living at such a close proximity to someone who had killed somebody’s daughter. So many layers of lies. He feels utterly betrayed and very upset. I don’t think there is any coming back from it,” he confessed.

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7:30pm on ITV1.
