Liverpool will have the chance to sign Adrien Rabiot from under the noses of rivals Manchester United.

Perennially linked to the Red Devils, Rabiot is on the lookout for a new club following the expiration of his contract.

The midfielder’s deal with Juventus ran out at the end of last season, but a decision on Rabiot’s future had been delayed until after France’s Euro 2024 exit.

Rabiot was locked in negotiations around an extension, with the Old Lady keen to have seen him stick around in Turin.

However, Rabiot and his entourage decided now was the best time to leave for pastures new, rejecting Juventus’ offer, with talk around a move to the Premier League starting to pick up.

As per Foot Mercato, Liverpool are among the teams in England’s top flight whose interest has been piqued by Rabiot’s newfound status as a free agent.

It would offer new Liverpool manager Arne Slot the early chance to slash United’s long-term admiration for Rabiot by signing him on a free.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and incumbent manager Erik ten Hag had considered moves for the ex-Paris Saint-Germain star, but the Old Trafford outfit have always turned to alternative targets.

That isn’t to say United won’t rekindle their interest following Rabiot’s Juventus contract snub, with The Daily Mirror reporting the 20-time English champions, as well as Liverpool, are set for talks.

The 29-year-old is subject to keen interest from Liverpool and United, as well as clubs across the continent like Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AC Milan.

The level of interest in Rabiot’s services might raise eyebrows for some, given the 29-year-old isn’t the most jazzy of midfielders, but his true worth is seen from his performances with the French national team.

A favourite of Didier Deschamps, the France manager has always found room for Rabiot in his starting XI, because of his industrious approach to the game.

And he could prove the perfect type of player for Slot, who is expected to implement a high-intensity pressing style at Liverpool for the upcoming campaign.

With Rabiot, they’d have someone capable of breaking up play in the centre of midfield, bursting forward on the occasional mazy dribble and even finding the back of the net from time to time too.
