The Emmy nominations for this year were announced on July 17, and TV buffs are up in arms that one of the most acclaimed shows of 2023 was snubbed.

FX's epic historical drama Shogun dominated the nominations with a staggering 25 nods.

Close behind was The Bear, another FX production, which bagged 23 nominations, setting a new benchmark for a television comedy.

Only Murders in the Building received 21 nominations, including a debut nod for leading lady Selena Gomez, while Netflix's surprise hit Baby Reindeer secured an impressive 11 nods.

However, as is tradition each year, many TV enthusiasts were more concerned with the shows that were overlooked by the Academy.

One of the most glaring omissions this year is the complete absence of nominations for The Curse, the eccentric black comedy created by and starring Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, with Oscar-winner Emma Stone in the main role.

The Showtime series (available on Paramount+ in the UK) follows Emma and Nathan as married couple Whitney and Asher who are attempting to launch a reality show about eco-friendly homes.

There was significant awards buzz, particularly for Emma, when the series premiered last November, but the Hollywood superstar's performance was entirely overlooked by the Emmys this year.

Numerous fans of the show have voiced their indignation at the blatant snub on social media.

"Me scanning through the Emmy nominations and realizing THE CURSE got zero," an X (formerly Twitter) user declared, posting a snapshot of Emma looking astonished in the series.

They added: "In all seriousness, maybe my favorite thing of [Emma's] ever."

"Emma and Nathan's performance in the curse was above any award," another fan insisted. "They truly were exceptional no one can convince me otherwise... very much irritated by this snub."

Another asserted: "Not nominating Emma Stone for an Emmy for The Curse is gonna go down as one of the worst decisions in awards history."

"You can argue with this because of the relatively small cultural footprint of a show like The Curse, but she is really THAT good."

One more dismayed viewer commented: "Emma Stone and The Curse getting no nominations is such a miss from the Emmys. One of the best shows of the year with THE performance of the year deserved better."

A particularly disgruntled fan on Reddit vented their frustration: "The leads of Morning Show getting nominations year after year w zero percent chance of winning over Emma Stone in the curse is f***ing bulls**t."

Unfortunately for fans of the quirky drama, with The Curse being a limited series, it means that star Emma Stone has missed her shot at bagging her first Emmy.

The Curse is available to stream on Paramount+.
