BBC Breakfast branded 'amateur hour' as fans left raging at show 'gatecrasher'

BBC Breakfast blunder as screen cuts away

BBC Breakfast fans were left dumbfounded when a sports report was accidentally interspersed with random footage of someone on a mobile phone.

Over on Twitter, viewers branded it "amateur hour" as reactions ranged from hysterical laughter to fury. "Director on work experience this morning?? Amateur hour #bbcbreakfast," one wrote in disbelief.

Another quizzed: "Who's on the phone?", adding a string of laughter emojis. " @BBCBreakfast has the guy in the video room gone to sleep?" joked a third.

Another quipped: "Thanks for that I needed a good laugh.." Others were in agreement, sarcastically exclaiming: "Classic Sport report there", while someone confessed: "I was literally crying laughing, absolutely brilliant stuff."

The phone blunder wasn't the only awkward moment on the show - and Naga Munchetty was triggered to remember one of her own embarrassing experiences when a segment about a seagull appeared. A man had been baffled when he spotted feathers dropping from his chimney and had expected the worst - a dead animal trapped inside.

However, when he sought expert help, a live seagull was discovered there.

The dazed and bemused looking bird was lifted out and released to safety.

However, the video footage of the moment reminded Naga of her own experience, when pigeons had taken up resident in the chimney.

She revealed that she'd had to resort to professional help to get them out.

Meanwhile, last year, Naga was in hysterics and unable to control her laughter after video footage was played of a man getting whacked in the head by a pigeon.

He'd been caught totally unawares by flying straight into him as he walked to the shops.

As the shocked man rubbed his sore head, and Naga learnt that he'd described it as "being whacked full pelt with a feathered pillow", she screamed with amusement.

As her co-star pointed out the "really good CCTV footage" of the incident, she quipped: "It's better than some of the filming we do!"
