Suspect's Tamsin Greig pays tribute to 'magnificent' co-stars and teases affair twist

Trailer for second series of Channel 4's Suspect

Actress Tamsin Greig has shared her admiration for her co-stars as she teases an affair twist in the new series of Suspect.

The popular British crime drama adapted by Matt Baker took the nation by storm when it first premiered in June 2022. Based on the Danish series Face to Face, the Channel 4 show follows Detective Danny Frater, who is on a quest to discover what happened to his daughter after finding her dead.

Starring James Nesbit, Richard E Grant, Ben Miller and several other familiar faces, the show is set to make an epic return with another nail-biting plot. Joining the cast for the new season, Tasmin, who is known for her roles in Green Wing and Friday Night Dinner, was asked how she felt about working alongside actors such as Ben and Anne-Marie Duff.

Tamsin, who plays high-end corporate lawyer Natasha in the new series, said: "What's really lovely is that you can go along in a career and know about people and you've sort of been growing in the same nursery, but you never cross paths. So I know both of them (sort of) socially.

"I had done one scene in a show called Episodes that I did, and Ben Miller came in to play himself, but I've never actually worked with Anne-Marie. Both of them have magnificent reputations as performers.

"And so to then suddenly cross paths with them this late in the game feels like when someone turns up at a party, when you're about to leave and you go, I think I might stay for a while right?"

Sharing further insight into her character and teasing what's to come she said: "Natasha is the wife of Richard (Ben Miller). Richard's is a Detective Superintendent who is Danny's boss.

"Danny is Susanna's ex-husband. So there's one line that we've just done in the scene where Natasha says this place makes us all into wives, i.e. that we're all just attachments to these men who are in powerful positions to make things happen or make things disappear or to investigate things.

"But these two women, Natasha and Susannah (Anne-Marie) are now stepping into that central position of who knows what and when they are they going to reveal what they know...." She added.

Tamsin continued: "What's lovely about this character is that, I mean, I think the original was called Face to Face because it was like dialogues. So it was two characters. But in this series, what you have is actually a triumvirate of Susanna and Richard, and Natasha and Richard and Natasha are so codependent and entrenched that they could be one person or two sides of the same person.

Hinting about a possible affair twist, she continued: "But they are also keeping secrets from each other, which psychologically is something that we do anyway. We keep secrets from ourselves and then things come to the surface and we have to engage with that. And she hasn't been killed, (to my knowledge), and she's only actually in half the episode. So I think there's lots more room for her to be a manipulative manipulator."

Channel 4's Suspect is available to stream now.
