Richard Madeley 'planning funeral' with wife Judy as he makes rare death admission

Richard Madeley says Judy would not know how to plan his funeral

Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley has made a rare insight into his marriage as he admitted that wife Judy ‘wouldn’t know what to do’ if he suddenly died.

The 67-year-old has been married to wife Judy Finngan since 1986. The couple met whilst working as reporters for ITV and from the get-go, they shared an instant attraction.

During Wednesday’s episode of the ITV hit breakfast show, Richard and co-star Ranvir Singh were joined by Gogglebox star Marcus Luther and his wife Mica Ven as they spoke about their recent TV appearance.

The couple are appearing on Channel 4 show, titled Celebrity Send-Off, which sees the couple go through the process of planning each other's funerals.

Ranvir asked: “What did you think when you got the call asking you to be on a show about planning each other's funerals?” Marcus replied: “For me it was the same thing like most people would say ‘why would you want to do that’.

“But then when you think about it, it’s conversations that we don’t have when we know that we are all promised death one day. It’s a conversation that does need to be happening in the household.”

He continued: “I didn’t think it would be hard but there were moments where I was reflecting on her life and I was just speaking and things got emotional. The thought that one day one of them isn't going to be here.”

Richard took the opportunity to open up about his own marriage and how he has never spoken about planning his send-off with wife Judy.

He went on to say: “I’m just thinking about my own marriage and I don’t think that I have ever even thought about what kind of funeral I would like, still not told Judy.”

He continued: “So if I got hit by a bus on my way home today she wouldn’t know what I wanted and I’m not sure I do either.”

Richard then turned to the couple and asked: “So what kind of funeral would you like?” Marcus looked at wife Mica and joked: “The one I’ve planned.”

Good Morning Britain continues every weekday at 6am on ITV and ITV X.
