Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has spoken out on Jadon Sancho for the first time since the winger returned to Carrington for pre-season training, having ended their feud which saw the 24-year-old cast aside and sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho had expected to find a new permanent home after impressing back in Germany when Ten Hag’s future was resolved and the head coach had been backed by new decision-makers INEOS.

But despite being exiled just a year ago for publicly disagreeing with Ten Hag on social media, the pair resolved their differences. However, after not featuring in the 1-0 friendly defeat by Rosenborg on Monday to begin United’s pre-season, Ten Hag refused to confirm that Sancho would stay at Old Trafford.

“As we said, we've drawn the line,” said Ten Hag, when asked about the matter. “Manchester United needs good players and Jadon is a good player. We have drawn that line and we move on.”

Ten Hag was pressed further on whether ending their feud could turn around Sancho's United career, but he only added: “We've drawn the line. We move on.”

Despite holding positive talks and returning to training, Sancho was omitted from the 25-man travelling squad to Norway to face Rosenborg. Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Mason Mount were among the senior players involved alongside a host of youth players.

Sancho only returned to pre-season testing on Wednesday, July 10, before joining in with the group the following day. It is thought that he is still stepping up his fitness and a decision will be made on whether he will feature against Rangers in Edinburgh on Saturday, before the team fly to the United States.

Sancho is available for selection but The Athletic claim that it is now unclear whether he remains in the shop window, with the focus thought to be on undertaking a full pre-season under Ten Hag.

United were willing to listen to offers for the £72million man, with an asking price set at £40m. But they had not received any bids close to the valuation despite interest from Juventus and Dortmund.

Sancho played a crucial role on loan at Dortmund for the second half of the season, helping them into the Champions League final before losing at the final hurdle to Real Madrid and Dani Carvajal’s winner.

United had been in the market for a winger this summer, with Michael Olise pursued before he sealed a move to Bayern Munich, but with Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Amad Diallo and Sancho all on the books it remains to be seen if the Red Devils will dip into the market.
