Chassis 002 McLaren P1 Surfaces at Auction

RM Sotheby’s is set to auction a remarkable 2014 McLaren P1, chassis number 002 of 375, the earliest P1 ever offered to the public. This automotive marvel has been meticulously upgraded by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), featuring over $109,000 USD in bespoke options, including a fully exposed carbon fiber body.

Originally sold in May 2014 by McLaren Greenwich, chassis 002 has a history of exceptional care and maintenance. It recently underwent a comprehensive $135,320 USD service in August 2023, which included a new HDA with clutch assembly, ensuring it remains in peak condition.

The McLaren P1 is celebrated for its advanced technology and performance. Powered by a mid-mounted 3.8L twin-turbo V-8 engine and an electric motor, it delivers a staggering 893 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque — allowing the P1 to achieve a 0-60 mph in just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph.

Notably, this P1 features exclusive MSO elements, including green-tinted carbon fiber accents and green contrasting stitching. These details, combined with its rarity, make chassis 002 a highly desirable collector's item. The vehicle's distinguished provenance includes a unique upgrade: a fully exposed, green-tinted carbon fiber body, a rare feature among P1s. This customization was so notable that the entire MSO team signed the car's engine bay.

This ultra-rare example of the P1, with only 5,890 miles on it, is set to be auctioned via RM Sotheby's upcoming Monterey Sale and is expected to realize as much as $2,350,000 USD by auction end.
