Michael Mosley will be honoured across BBC radio and TV with a dedicated day when presenters and audiences will be encouraged to do “just one thing” to improve their wellbeing.

The television doctor, 67, died of natural causes last month after he went missing on the Greek island of Symi.

Just One Thing Day this Friday is named after his popular BBC Radio 4 podcast where he revealed tips to improve people’s health.

The BBC said it will promote Dr Mosley’s ethos to “encourage healthy habits by introducing easy routines or simple swaps into daily life to improve health and wellbeing”.

BBC Radio 4 will lead the charge with Today programme highlighting those who have changed their lives as a result of Mosley’s tips.

Host Anita Rani, later on Woman’s Hour, will reflect on the impact the TV doctor has had on her life with a focus on the benefits of exercise.

The Food Programme will showcase topics ranging from eating oily fish to the benefits of turmeric while the Front Row show will celebrate how listening to music or playing an instrument can bring calm.

Radio 2, 6 Music, and Radio 1 will also mark the day. Morning Live and The One Show, where Dr Mosley was a regular contributor, will also join in celebrating his legacy.

Mohit Bakaya, director of speech and controller of BBC Radio 4 and 4 Extra, said: “Michael’s broadcasting changed people’s lives.

“We thought that it would be fitting to dedicate a day to the impact he had.”

Dr Mosley popularised the 5:2 diet, a form of intermittent fasting, via his book The Fast Diet.
