The BBC’s General Election coverage has come under fire after presenter Laura Kuenssberg took a swipe at incoming Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer as the results came in.

The presenter was helming the BBC’s election coverage overnight alongside Clive Myrie.

Not long after the polls closed, the first exit poll was published, which predicted a landslide victory for Labour over the Tories, which then came to pass.

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

Laura Kuennsberg was then tasked with reading a tweet from Keir Starmer, who was reacting to the first poll.

Laura, reading the tweet, said: “To everyone who has campaigned for Labour in this election, to everyone who voted for us and put their trust in our changed Labour party”, before stopping to tell the camera “one of his favourite phrases” - “thankyou.”

Viewers were not happy with Laura Kuenssberg’s coverage on the night as they switched off.

@daisybelll said; “Laura Kuenssberg doesn’t want to focus too much on the huge Labour majority-she’s very taken with the RefUK vote..4 seats currently.”

@britishblackman said: “Clive Myrie and Laura Kuenssberg, to me, have not really worked as a presenting partnership.”

@mrsjumption said: “once again my campaign for Laura Kuenssberg to be moved to royal correspondent is only being strengthened by tonight. More broadly, the BBC coverage really is failing to serve the public”

@mattjsport said: “Laura Kuenssberg is truly insufferable. Bringing down Labour at every opportunity, trying to formulate as pessimistic an opinion over every result of theirs as possible. She makes it sound like Labour have lost the election.”

@julianmarkowen said; “BBC might think that, on reflection, it would have been good to introduce Clive Myrie to Laura Kuenssberg before tonight.”

@charliefarleyfo said: “Couldn't bring myself to stick with the BBC just 5 mins in of Laura Kuenssberg and I wanted to launch the TV out the window. ITV are performing rather well..”
