EastEnders fans predict new Watts family member as Chrissie returns after 19 years

EastEnders: Dirty Den confronts Phil Mitchell in the pub

EastEnders enthusiasts have figured out the reason behind Chrissie Watts' unexpected return to Walford.

After an absence of nearly two decades, Chrissie (played by Tracy-Ann Oberman) is making a surprising reappearance in the East End. The straight-talking character was a regular on the BBC One soap from 2004 until 2005 leaving a significant impression on Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).

As Dirty Den's (Leslie Grantham) wife, Chrissie quickly became a fan favourite, appearing in 218 episodes. During her time in Albert Square, she served as the landlady of The Queen Vic and featured in numerous storylines - but she is most remembered for murdering her husband Den.

Chrissie, along with Sam Mitchell and Zoe Slater, confronted evil Den, resulting in his brutal death. The episode was viewed by 14.34 million people, with "almost 60% of possible viewers" tuning in to witness Chrissie killing Den.

In 2005, Chrissie exited the Square when she was incarcerated for Den's murder. However, 19 years later, the soap legend is set to return to Walford for a brief stint later this year, reports the Daily Star.

But before her comeback, EastEnders fans have been quick to speculate about what brings her back to the place she despised, with some convinced she has a child that was Den's - implying it's Sharon's adoptive brother.

Sharon was adopted by Den and his wife Angie Watts (Anita Dobson), and later married Den's biological son, Dennis Rickman (Nigel Harman).

The blonde siren discovered her biological father was none other than baddie Gavin Sullivan (Paul Nicholas), and she has a blood-related brother - Zack Hudson (James Farrar).

An avid fan voiced their hopes on social media platform X (formerly Twitter): "If Chrissie does return I need her to have den's long lost son arrive as well. I need Sharon to have as many siblings as humanly possible #EastEnders."

Another chimed: "I want Chrissie to return with another new Watts - a 20 year old son that no one knew about. #EastEnders". A third offered: "Will she have Dirty Den's kid in tow? ? ."

" If, and it's a big if, Chrissie is returning, any children of hers would likely be Jake Moon's (Alfie's cousin - presumed dead at the hands of Johnny Allen's gang) could make a comeback from the grave, as it was never confirmed he had died. #Eastenders," speculated a fourth.

EastEnders is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
