Emmerdale's Ash Palmisciano says 'there's worse to come' for Matty amid prison twist

Emmerdale: Ash Palmisciano on Matty's prison storyline

Emmerdale's Ash Palmisciano, who portrays Matty Barton, has teased that there is much more drama ahead for his ITV soap character.

Currently, Matty is behind bars on remand, accused of the stabbing of Samson Dingle and is desperately trying to conceal his identity as a trans man from fellow prisoners. With his family fighting tooth and nail for his release, Matty has been living in fear, avoiding showers and staying locked in his cell.

However, things are about to change with the introduction of a new cellmate named Les, a development Moira discovers through Cain. Ash Palmisciano recently appeared on This Morning to spill the beans on what viewers can expect next.

"Matty's cellmate confronts him and says, 'Look, I know something's up with you. The other guys here are questioning you, you're being too quiet, you're not quite right'. So he has to say... this guy wants to help him, and he has to say, 'Okay, this is who I am'."

"He's got this cellmate who's kind of defended him. He's a bit of a rough diamond, he's a good guy who's ended up in there and he wants to look after Matty. He needs to know the truth. But once it's out there's other characters in there that aren't as understanding," reports the Mirror.

Ash added: "Matty's incredibly vulnerable, and let's face it, being inside and having an extra added target on your back is of course going to cause a threat. There's lots to come and as I said it's been so exciting to do."

Ash has dropped a bombshell about Matty's perilous situation, revealing to the media: "Amy reveals to Robbo, who is a very nasty transphobic horrible guy that Matty's trans. It's the worst possible thing that could have happened to Matty he just thought he was on the cusp of getting a hold of it and surviving and he was going to be all right and now he's been outed by his wife, which is unbelievable."

"Matty thinks at first there's absolutely no way that she would tell him on purpose so what has he done to her? So he's quite protective of her at first."

"Also, when you're in a cell you have a lot of time in your head and the only thing you can do is think. I think he's going round and round and round about why this has happened and what's going to happen next."

In a shocking twist, Robbo corners Matty in his cell leaving fans on edge about his fate.
