Vicky Pattison, the 36 year old Geordie Shore star, has spoken out against online trolls targeting Love Island contestants. The reality TV veteran, who first gained fame in 2011 as an original cast member of Geordie Shore, is no stranger to hurtful comments herself.

She's often praised by her fans for her frank discussions about online trolling on her social media platforms, reports the Mirror.

Recently, following a health scare, Vicky took to Instagram to express her dismay at the abuse directed towards this year's Love Island participants. In a detailed post, she revealed her shock at the level of hatred some people could harbour for complete strangers on television.

She continued: "I personally know some absolutely incredible people who have come out of Love Island and done amazing things- look at @tashaghouri for example? Constantly campaigning for inclusivity and helping young hearing impaired and deaf girls and boys all over country feel seen and represented! @dralexgeorge a powerful and impressive man, the work he does in the mental health space is just inspirational! @oliviadbowen always honest and open on her social media! A refreshing change! @faye__winter advocating consistently for the voiceless- standing up for animals when most were too scared to lose followers and do so! And my @amberrosegill walking proudly in her truth and in doing so inspiring so many other beautiful members of the LGBTQ+ community to do the same."

"What's WILD to me is that people have seen the gravity their words can hold, in reality tv in general but especially around this show and they still just can't help themselves... what happened to 'be kind? ! ' Seems like too many people have forgotten.

"We have a general election coming up, at least four countries at war and a nation being totally wiped out under our noses, school shootings, dog shelters filled to the brim with helpless animals, natural disasters and children going missing all the time."

She continued: "But sure, let's direct our hate at the girls and boys in the villa with the brightly coloured swimwear. Most of these islanders are young, out of their comfort zones and I can guarantee even if they look and seem confident- they're terrified!".

Reflecting on her own TV experiences, she added: "I am slowly beginning to feel a sense pride about the woman I'm becoming. What I'm trying to say is we don't have it all figured out in our teens and 20's, Christ in a cardigan, sometimes we don't have it figured out in our 30s."

"I'm still learning. Most of us are - life is about progress, not perfection."

Tasha Ghouri from season eight chimed in with support, commenting: "Couldn't have said it anymore right! People always forget it's 45 minutes out of 24 hours and we're all just human trying to navigate through love friendships etc! People forget being kind is free. Thank you Vicky! So much love for you."

Faye Winter of season seven also showed her support, saying: "Love you endlessly, everything you stand for and you're voice. However please can you focus on your health at the minute, you try and help so many always and I adore you for that but don't allow these people to take away from your rest, please put yourself first for once."
