Lazio have tabled an ultimatum in their pursuit of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood as they attempt to seal a deal, according to reports. United have fielded plenty of interest in the 22-year-old and intend to offload him this summer, but they are yet to receive an offer they deem suitable.

Greenwood is widely expected to permanently depart Old Trafford in the coming weeks after resuming his career on loan at Getafe last season.

He made a positive impression at the La Liga club, scoring 10 goals and registering six further assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.

Greenwood's performances reportedly generated heavyweight interest from elsewhere in Spain, Italy, Germany, France and Portugal ahead of the summer transfer window.

AS Monaco, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Benfica, Juventus, Napoli, Marseille and Lazio have all been touted as suitors.

Lazio have been most heavily linked with Greenwood after reportedly submitting an opening bid for his signature in June.

However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, United rejected that offer, which was worth around £17million plus a 50 per cent sell-on clause.

The Red Devils are believed to want to offload Greenwood before pre-season begins on Monday, though, so the Biancocelesti are preparing to double down on their approach.

The report adds that Lazio president Claudio Lotito is unwilling to increase the offer and match United's £30m asking price.

So he is said to be preparing to table the same offer - £17m plus a 50 per cent sell-on clause - with a deadline of July 10 before it gets withdrawn.

Lazio are reportedly willing to pay Greenwood around £2.8m per year if he decides to make the switch to Rome this summer.

But United are unlikely to accept the same terms, despite the unprecedented sell-on clause, which could represent incredible value further down the line.

Erik ten Hag wants to add at least a new centre-back, central midfielder and striker to his squad before his third season in charge.

Greenwood is among the players in the shop window with the potential to generate a substantial transfer fee, as well as Casemiro, Scott McTominay and Jadon Sancho.

The former United No. 11 and Sancho might not report to Carrington with the rest of Ten Hag's non-internationals on Monday while the club explore potential moves.
