Keir Starmer brutally mocked on Jeremy Vine by guests during on-air rant

Carole Malone questions Starmer's description of his father

Jeremy Vine on 5 soon turned heated this morning as panellists discussed Sir Kier Starmer's bid for Prime Minister as the General Election soon approaches.

Journalist Carole Malone went on a huge rant about the Labour Leader after a viewer called the show to explain why they'd vote for Starmer over Conservative Leader - and current Prime Minister - Rishi Sunak.

Malone interrupted the caller, named Tina, from Buckinghamshire, to say: "Let's not pretend Starmer grew up in a working-class environment where there was no money because there was."

Her co-star Jacquie Smith slyly quipped: "You may not have noticed Carole, but his dad was a toolmaker," in reference to the many times the Labour Leader has told reporters of his late father's profession.

However, Malone fumed: "His father owned the tool-making factory - I keep hearing this, that his dad was a toolmaker..."

Host Alexis Conran had to cut in by telling Malone: "Hang on, he didn't own a tool-making factory, he had a business but that's not a factory."

Still irate, Malone added: "Well, he owned the tool-making business - it is a bit different to being on the production line."

Continuing to lambast Starmer, Malone claimed he was on £365,000 a year when he was the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Starmer, who has referenced his father's occupation on several occasions live on-air was met with groans from a Sky News debate audience in recent weeks as he opened up about it to host Beth Rigby.

He shared on the programme: “When I grew up, my dad was a toolmaker, he worked in a factory..."

“It’s true - my mum was a nurse - and we couldn’t make ends meet. Which is not a laughing matter.”

After being met with laughs from the audience, an angered Starmer told GB News: "My Dad worked in a factory all his life. He felt people disrespected him.

"It hit a nerve last night. He felt that - in the usual conversation when someone says, 'What do you do for a living?' When socially, he would say 'I work in a factory', and there would be a pause, and nobody quite knew what to say.

"And he felt really disrespected. It caused him in his life to withdraw from social engagements."

The General Election happens tomorrow, Thursday, July 4, with the opinion polls predicting Labour will get an overall majority vote.
