Eamonn Holmes makes GB News hosting announcement after sparking concern with sudden exit

Eamonn Holmes confirms he will present GB News on Friday

GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has clarified that he and co-star Isabel Webster will "be here when we don't have to be", so that the pair can present the General Election coverage.

That means a major shake-up in the GB News viewing schedule for the Friday morning breakfast show. Eamonn made the revelation during a discussion about whether it's acceptable to request employees to work on weekends.

The matter has been trending recently, as Labour leader Keir Starmer vowed that if he becomes Prime Minister, he won't be working past 6pm on a Friday as he will switch off for his weekends. That launched a debate about whether he was being irresponsible, as someone in the most senior position in his party.

This morning on GB News, the argument was reignited as Eamonn insisted he saw it as his "duty" to be in the studio when he didn't have to be. Correspondant Ben had argued: "I think it's perfectly reasonable that in certain high-performance jobs, you are expected to go above and beyond every now and then to achieve the kind of outcomes that would be expected of you.

"You guys both know from your careers in journalism," he continued. "You've got to where you are partly, I would imagine, because when a producer or editor calls and you've already clocked off or on a day when you're not necessarily expecting to be working, when a big story breaks, you answer the phone and you come into work."

"Most people will recognise that if you get to a certain place in your career, it will be most times because you've demonstrated a flexibility," he continued.

In reply, Eamonn revealed: "Isabel and I are doing extra on Friday - we are here when we don't have to be, but because the general election has been called, we see it as our duty to be here and bring the news to the public."

The comments came as part of an action-packed show, which also saw viewers debate about the current housing crisis.

Labour pledged that, if elected, the party would build one and a half million new homes to try to meet demand and prevent housing costs from escalating.

However, some argued in the comments that the solution would be to reduce or suspend immigration, to avoid building over areas of the Green Belt.

The belt was created by Winston Churchill's nephew to ensure clean air and promote good physical and mental health.

Meanwhile, Eamonn shared his own dire experiences with housing in his younger years, admitting that he once went to view a flat with no wardrobe space.

The astonished TV host explained that when he asked about it, he was told: "Today's renters, they don't want wardrobes!"

Meanwhile, Eamonn disappeared suddenly yesterday morning mid-show as he had been taken ill - but he is back and seems to be his usual self today.
