BBC Breakfast cuts to Gethin Jones on Morning Live

Jon Kay made a sly dig at his BBC co-star Gethin Jones on today's BBC Breakfast as the presenter appeared on Morning Live The Welsh presenter was out on the field and was "silenced" as Morning Live gave a preview of today's show.

BBC Breakfast presenters, Jon and Sally Nugent, cut to the Morning Live studio to give viewers at home a sneak peek of what was to come. Sara Davies and Helen Skelton were sat in the BBC studio, with co-star Gethin appearing on a screen between them.

Helen explained that the show would be discussing how to improve energy efficiency ratings and how a finance expert will be on hand to talk about ISA saving accounts. Attention soon turned to Gethin, who they said was reporting live from Wimbledon.

Helen said: "We've served him an eviction notice and sent him to Wimbledon on a gloriously... oh, no, no sun there yet.

"Oh that's a shame." The screen cut to Gethin crossing his fingers with a gloomy looking backdrop, as no sound could be heard.

The Morning Live presenter then turned her attention to Jon, back in the BBC Breakfast studio, as she complimented his outfit. But Sally Nugent was quick to direct the subject back to Gethin.

She said: "I love the fact that you've shown us Gethin but you didn't let him speak." Jon joked: "Which is good!"

The screen cut to Gethin making a silent protest with hand actions and him pretending to be offended.

Jon continued: "Let's do this every morning, shall we? Gethin is gagged on BBC One!"

He added: "We will let him speak but after 9.30 when Morning Live returns." Turning to Sally he joked: "Or maybe we shouldn't."

Earlier this week, Jon Kay was replaced on BBC Breakfast as Ben Thompson stepped in. Viewers at home are used to seeing Jon host the early morning programme with Sally Nugent at the start of the week.

But on Tuesday, Jon was nowhere to be seen. BBC Breakfast fans complained and demanded for Naga Munchetty to take over the show instead as Sally and Ben attemped to interview Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
