Utah State football coach Blake Anderson reportedly put on administrative leave

Utah State football coach Blake Anderson has been put on administrative leave and “is not expected to return as coach,” according to an ESPN report.

Anderson was getting ready for his fourth season in Logan as head coach. After winning the Mountain West conference his first year, the last two years have resulted in losing seasons. He went 6-7 in 2023, losing in the Idaho Potato Bowl.

Utah State did not immediately respond to comment about the reason for Anderson’s leave.

Two weeks ago, Utah State athletic director Diana Sabau said she felt “really excited” about the direction of the football program under Anderson.

She said the increased retention of players — after a mass exodus in 2022 — indicated growth.

“I wasn’t a part of last spring,” she said. “There was a ton of transition last year with our roster. This year, we were more stable. Really excited for some of our young men to step up and be leaders. Really excited.”
