Roy Cropper is brutally attcked in Coronation Street scenes set to air next week.

The Weatherfield legend has been on our screens since 1995 and over the past 29 years he's been part of some of the ITV soap's most gripping storylines.

Recently, the fan favourite spent weeks in jail after being wrongly accused of murdering his former employee Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) who went missing back in February and hasn't been seen since.

Next week, Roy heads out of the cafe to take some homemade soup to Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) and gets confronted by a gang of yobs calling him names and he stumbles to the floor.

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

Carla Connor (Alison King) rushes to his aid but it is clear he is in pain. When Shona admits she was never ill, Roy sends her and Evelyn Plummer (Maurren Lipman) packing.

Roy drifts in and out of consciousness whilst his visitor stays at his bedside before disappearing. When Roy tells Nina about his surprise visitor, she wonders if he is hallucinating. Who does he think he has seen?

The much-loved cafe owner, as viewers know, was released from captivity a few weeks back but even so he’s struggled to get back to normal, with his niece Nina making it her mission next week to help.

Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley Kin) and Shona tried to help and the trio agree to work together to come up with something to lift Roy out of his depression and get him out of the flat.

With Roy struggling to get back to normal after his stint behind bars, and his recent ordeal in the street, will he ever settle in Weatherfield?

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
