Brooks Koepka shows true colours in response to brutal public taunt from NHL star

Brooks Koepka couldn't help but chuckle at a cheeky jibe from NHL star Aaron Ekblad, as the Florida Panthers celebrated their historic Stanley Cup triumph with their fans in a rain-soaked Fort Lauderdale on Sunday.

The Panthers secured their first-ever Stanley Cup title by besting the Edmonton Oilers the previous Tuesday. Koepka, a five-time major winner, was spotted reveling in the victory, evidenced by footage of him and his mates enjoying the moment that surfaced online.

The jubilation in Florida continued unabated five days on, with the Panthers braving a deluge to parade their hard-won trophy through the streets of Fort Lauderdale.

In the midst of the festivities, defenceman Ekblad seized the microphone donning a traffic cone as an impromptu hat and aimed a playful barb at LIV Golf's Koepka. With gusto, the 28 year old bellowed: "F**** you Brooks Koepka! " to the delight of the gathered crowd, who responded with an uproarious cheer.

Koepka caught wind of Ekblad's shout-out and responded in good humour, reposting the video on his Instagram story adorned with three laughing emojis. The ribbing stemmed from a past encounter between the two when Koepka showed up at a Panthers match in March.

In a heated exchange, Koepka was seen waving a traffic cone and shouting: "You are a f****** traffic cone! " at Ekbald during the 4-3 defeat to the New York Raiders. In his defence, Koepka later explained: "Yeah, he gave up a bad goal I think midway through the third.

"I just felt like if they didn't win that game they weren't going to make the Playoffs. Dedicated fan, man."

There was clearly tension between the two, with Ekbald stating: "We're not buddies. Never be buddies."

When asked about his relationship with the high-profile fan, however, Ekbald did reveal that the former U.S. PGA champion had texted him an apology, which he accepted.

"He did what he did, and he apologised," Ekblad said. "Holding ill will against somebody and pulling negativity in your body is never a good thing. At the end of the day, it's all just sports, right?"

Ekblad added. "We all get intense sometimes.
