ITV Good Morning Britain's Rob Rinder intervenes as Kate Garraway struggles live on air

GMB: Robert Rinder steps in as Kate Garraway coughs

Kate Garraway needed her co-star to step in as she began to struggle while presenting Good Morning Britain.

The 57-year-old fronted the ITV programme alongside Robert Rinder for the second time this week, sharing Friday's (June 28) top headlines with viewers.

The main news story of the day was the release of undercover footage, taken by Channel 4 news, which shows Reform UK campaigners making racist, homophobic, and Islamophobic slurs.

As Kate welcomed viewers back to the broadcast, she stopped to cough. The presenter continued: "Our main news - undercover footage filmed for Channel 4 news, apparently showing Reform UK campaigners making racist, homophobic, and Islamophobic..."

"Excuse me," Kate said before gesturing to her co-star and coughing once again. Robert, 46, immediately stepped in and began reading Kate's autocue while she drank some water.

Rob took charge until he handed over to correspondent Liz Summers, who was live in Clacton to share the latest on the story.

The comments made by the Reform UK members were recorded by an undercover Channel 4 journalist while they campaigned for Nigel Farage to become Clacton's MP.

Farage, 60, said he was "dismayed" by the remarks made by Andrew Parker, a Reform canvasser. Parker used a racial slur against Rishi Sunak and called for migrants to be shot.

Parker said of the Prime Minister: "I’ve always been a Tory voter. But what annoys me is that f****** P*** we’ve got in. What good is he? You tell me, you know. He’s just wet. F****** useless.”

The volunteer for Reform also said migrants crossing the Channel in small boats should be used as "target practice". He said: "Army recruitment - get the young recruits there, with guns, on the f****** beach, target practice. F****** just shoot them."

Parker issued a statement after the recordings were released, apologising to the Reform party and its leader. He said: "I would therefore like to apologise profusely to Nigel Farage and the Reform Party if my personal views have reflected badly on them and brought them into disrepute, as this was not my intention.

The channel also filmed longtime Reform party activist George Jones, who was heard making homophobic comments as he called the Pride flag "degenerate".
