Rimac Ventures Into Autonomous Vehicle Sector with Verne Robotaxi

Renowned supercar manufacturer Rimac is venturing into the world of autonomous vehicles with its new robotaxi service, Verne -- named after poet Jules Verne. Service is set to launch in Zagreb Croatia in 2026, marking a significant shift for the company known for its high-performance electric vehicles.

Founded by Mate Rimac, the company has gained international acclaim with its Nevera hypercar and by taking control of Bugatti. Now, Rimac is leveraging its expertise in autonomous technology, a field it has been exploring since 2017. The project received substantial backing, including €200,000,000 EUR from the EU as part of Croatia's recovery plan and investments from Hyundai and Kia.

Verne will feature a fully electric, Level 4 autonomous vehicle designed by Adriano Mudri, known for his work on the Nevera. The vehicle will utilize Mobileye's self-driving system and boast a sleek, two-door design, offering a luxurious and spacious ride for up to two passengers. It aims to provide an affordable yet luxurious, high-quality transport option, complementing public transportation.

Once launched, the robotaxi will be able to be summoned through a dedicated app. As the service picks up traction, Verne plans to expand beyond Croatia, into major cities around the UK, Germany and the Middle East.
