TM: Cat Deeley says she struggles to juggle her kids and career

During Wednesday’s instalment of the popular ITV show, presenter Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard were speaking about the benefits of keeping fit.

The ITV star explained that new research showed that weightlifting is the best way to keep fit and active into older age.

While touching on the topic, they spoke to 70-year-old Melanie Lester, who recently represented Team GB in the European Women’s Masters Classic Powerlifting Championships and won away with a gold medal.

As the guest prepared to demonstrate her strength, it seemed as though This Morning viewers were quick to notice Cat’s shoes.

Usually, the presenters are only visible from the waist up, with their bottom half rarely making it on screen.

However, as they spotted black gladiator-style sandals, many were less than impressed as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Sharing their thoughts, one user said: “I'm sorry but Cat Deeley's sandals!" Another viewer wrote: “Cat’s sandals are just vile.”

Another echoed: “What's Cat got on her feet…” as a different distracted social media user wondered: "Who dressed Cat?”

Someone else quipped: “Much talk about Cat’s sandals so I’ve had to have a look.” Somebody else was enjoying Cat's appearance, however, and penned: "Everyone being mean about Cat's lovely sandals... I like them #thismorning."

Another viewer begged: "Show us Cats sandals I want to make judgement!"

While speaking to the guest, they learnt that Melanie’s deadlift record was an impressive 130kg.

Curious, Cat asked Ben what he was able to do as he confessed: “I can’t do 130!”

Shocked, his co-star quipped: “You can’t?! Even with those guns?”

Explaining more, Ben shared that one of the reasons he does a lot of weight training is to protect his back.

He commented: “I have to be very careful of not trying to go too far. Although, I’ll be more tempted now I know that Melanie is doing 130 kilos!”

Laughing at Ben's competitiveness, they allowed Melanie to showcase her skills as they highlighted the importance of form to avoid injuries.

Although the weight they had for Melanie was 100kg, which was less than her record, the 70-year-old picked up the bar with ease.

Once the bar slammed on the floor, the room erupted into applause as Cat commented: “Melanie! Absolutely incredible.”

Asking for words of advice for those watching who fear they’re too old to start weightlifting, she said: “Any age start! It’s not the weights that you do, it's just getting started, learning to do the form correctly and the sky’s the limit.
