Bryson DeChambeau handed second setback after missing out on USA Olympics team

Despite his recent triumph at the US Open, Bryson DeChambeau won't be part of the United States Presidents Cup team this year.

The LIV Golf star delivered an unforgettable final round at Pinehurst No. 2, outplaying Rory McIlroy to clinch the US Open trophy.

The victory propelled him back into the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) for the first time in two years.

However, DeChambeau's decision to join the Saudi-backed circuit in 2022 meant giving up his PGA Tour playing status, while his world ranking slipped due to the lack of OWGR points at LIV's 54-hole events. 'LIV' stands for 54 in roman numerals.

Despite these setbacks, DeChambeau has remained one of the sport's top performers in 2024. Unfortunately for him, his US Open success won't help him make a comeback to the Presidents Cup, even though he is national champion.

The Team USA consists of the top-six American players who have earned the most FedEx Cup points between January 1, 2023 and August 25, 2024. The remaining half of the team will be selected by Jim Furyk through six captain's picks.

Despite his victory at Pinehurst No. 2, DeChambeau was also left out of the United States team for this year's Olympic Games.

Instead, the squad heading to Le Golf National in Paris will be Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark.

Players are chosen for their national rankings, and despite Bryson DeChambeau's climb up the world list, he didn't make the cut. On The Pat McAfee Show, the Crushers' skipper shared his disappointment about not joining Team USA.

"I would love to represent the United States," he admitted. "It was tough for me not to go last time around because of COVID, and it was just one of those that happened.

"Hopefully, one day this game of golf will get figured out and come back together and I'll be able to play. I'm playing great golf, I'm excited.

"Ultimately, am I frustrated, disappointed? Sure, you can absolutely say that, but I made the choices that I made and there's consequences to that, and I respect it, but hopefully, sooner rather than later, we figure that out."
