HK to host world youth summit in August: Mak

The Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Alice Mak, said a summit would be held in August to provide an opportunity for young people from different places to come together and exchange ideas. In an interview with RTHK, Mak said more than 1,000 youth leaders and speakers from different parts of the world, including the mainland, would be invited to the Youth Development Summit. She said young people attending the event could understand global development trends and plan their future effectively. "The main objective is to create a platform where people from different places can meet our outstanding young people. They can learn about the remarkable qualities and potential of our youth," she said. "In addition, our young friends in Hong Kong will have the opportunity to interact with people from other cities and meet various youth leaders. This will enable them to broaden their horizons and foster more meaningful exchanges". Meanwhile, she said the government was working well with district councils and care teams to provide comprehensive support to people living in different areas. Mak said district councillors and care teams regularly visit residents to understand their needs and find solutions to problems. Citing the example of a deadly fire in Jordan in April, Mak said that without the cooperation between care teams and district councils, the government would not have been able to provide services to affected residents as efficiently and effectively. "We now have more partners in the districts. We are no longer relying on the government's resources and capacity alone."
