BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt replaced as he's missing from sofa in schedule shake-up

BBC Breakfast's regular host, Charlie Stayt, was noticeably absent from the latest broadcast.

Charlie is typically seen on the BBC show from Thursday to Saturday, along with his co-host Naga Munchetty as they discuss the day's headlines.

However, on Thursday morning (June 20), Charlie was nowhere to be found, prompting a change in the usual line-up. Instead, Roger Johnson, Charlie's colleague, stepped in to present the show alongside Naga.

This isn't Roger's first time at the helm of Breakfast; he's been a frequent presenter on the programme since 2012 and has often filled in when main hosts like Charlie are unavailable.

This isn't the first instance of Charlie's absence from the show in recent weeks, nor is it the first time Roger has taken over hosting duties. Roger also replaced Charlie earlier this month, reports the Daily Star.

The shake-up follows reports that Charlie was threatened with bankruptcy due to an unpaid tax bill. It's reported that Charlie, 61, and his wife Anne, 58, have been asked to settle a debt believed to be around £6,409.

The alleged unpaid tax is said to originate from their TV and broadcasting company, Stayt Ltd, which is reportedly £6,409 in debt.

According to The Sun, the couple were served individual petitions on Monday (June 3) demanding repayment of the debt, some of which dates back to March 2023.

Both Anne and Charlie have been registered as directors for Stayt Limited, a company with business objectives listed as television programming and broadcasting. An accountant named Hogbens Dunphy Secretaries has also been appointed as a director.

Charlie became part of the Breakfast team in 2006 and has been presenting the weekend edition of the early morning show since 2008. He frequently filled in for Dan Walker, who has recently departed the BBC for Channel 5.
