Bryson DeChambeau shows true character after suffering huge disappointment

Bryson DeChambeau has vowed to make up for the blow of missing out on another Olympics in four years’ time. The American is on the crest of a wave after his stunning victory in the US Open at Pinehurst.

However, his second major triumph wasn’t enough to propel him into the American team for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. As a LIV Golf player, DeChambeau can only secure ranking points through the majors.

And he hasn’t quite accrued enough to make the US party heading for France. A maximum of four players can represent any country in Olympic golf.

The US team will feature world No.1 Scottie Scheffler, world No.3 Xander Schauffele, world No.5 Wyndham Clark and world No.7 Collin Morikawa, with DeChambeau sixth in the list of Americans also behind Patrick Cantlay.

With tensions still running high in golf as LIV and the two main tours try to figure out a way to co-assist, DeChambeau admits he is deeply disappointed to miss out on the Olympics again.

The 30-year-old was forced to skip the delayed Toyko Games three years ago after contracting Covid. "I've done my best up until now to give myself a chance according to the [world ranking]," he said.

"But I realise and respect where the current situation of the game is, albeit it's frustrating and disappointing," added DeChambeau ahead of the LIV Golf event in Nashville.

The 2028 Olympics will take place in Los Angeles and he's already eyeing representing his country on home soil, by which time the golfing landscape may have changed significantly.

"Hopefully 2028 will be a little different situation, and it will make it that much sweeter,” he said. “I have always loved representing Team USA, whether it's been the world team amateur [Eisenhower Trophy], the Walker Cup, Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup.

“It's been some of the greatest moments of my life. Anytime you get a chance to represent your country, I’m all for it.

“This time around, it's disappointing, but I understand the decisions I made, and the way things have played out has not been necessarily perfectly according to plan.”
