Eric Cantona has criticised Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag amid uncertainty surrounding his future despite Saturday's memorable FA Cup triumph. The Red Devils icon has expressed doubt over whether Ten Hag's style of play will ever be good enough to restore the club's reputation at the summit of England football.

INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are conducting a season review this week ahead of deciding whether to start their rebuild project with a change in the dugout.

Ten Hag was widely expected to receive the Louis van Gaal treatment by being sacked after the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

United suffered their worst-ever Premier League and Champions League campaigns, failing to build on a successful maiden year of the Dutchman's reign.

However, after a shock 2-1 win at Wembley Stadium to lift a second major trophy in as many seasons, Ten Hag's situation is more up in the air than ever before.

He is still widely expected to receive his marching orders due to the underlying data that INEOS will undoubtedly analyse as part of their audit.

And Cantona seemingly wouldn't be opposed to that outcome, criticising Ten Hag's style of football despite the incredible victory at Wembley.

"I am happy with the FA Cup win. He has done well to win it," Cantona explained after United defeated City.

"But you can't play counter-attacking football for 38 games and win the league. Even when they have all their players, they still don't play beautiful football."

Teddy Sheringham is another club legend who has suggested he wants to see a change of manager despite FA Cup glory.

He told Sky Sports on Tuesday: "Well, the people in charge have got to have a look at the situation and ask if that is good enough for Man United.

"It's a fantastic end to the season, no doubt, and fully deserved, and I love the way he's brushed things off. 'If Man United don't want me, I'll go win trophies elsewhere,' which is fantastic.

"But at the same time, you look at where they finished. I think it was 13 [league] defeats during the season. It's not good enough for Manchester United.

"They need to be in the top two or three pushing to win the league, and at the moment they're nowhere near it. You've got to look at that as well.

"Yes, winning trophies is fantastic, but the be-all and end-all of Manchester United is being up there challenging.

"I know what it's like to be at that football club; they demand that, and it hasn't been good enough."
