This Morning set to host own version of British Soap Awards after show cancelled
ITV Soap Queen Sharon Marshall reached out to This Morning viewers to ask who they thought should have triumphed in this year's axed British Soap Awards. After a huge positive response on Twitter, Sharon went on to announce that This Morning would be hosting its own awards ceremony.
This means that soap fans will still get a chance to have their say about who wins when it comes to the most compelling storylines. Voting will be via the This Morning app and will include categories such as Best Soap, Best Actor, Best Family and even Best Villain - and results will be announced on Wednesday.
Neighbours has missed out in most categories, although it has received one nomination for Best Soap. Although the Radio Times Soap Awards ceremony is still going ahead this summer, the rules have prohibited overseas-based soaps from being nominated.
That means that casting a vote this week could be readers' only chance to see the show recognised this year. Last year, the best soap was EastEnders, with I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here contestant Danielle Harold being awarded the Best Leading Performer prize for her role on the soap as Lola Pearce-Brown.

The award was voted for by the judging panel, but viewers chose the Villain of The Year for 2023 themselves, opting for another EastEnders star, Aaron Thiara.

This year, a new romance meant that soap bosses were able to give him an unexpectedly soft side, but last year, he earned his villain status by being implicated in murder.
The public also voted for Coronation Street's the Platts as Best Soap Family, with Sarah (Tina O'Brien) looming large in storylines at the time.
Meanwhile, Corrie dominated the judging panel's results overall, as the terrifying acid attack storyline, which saw Ryan Connor (played by Ryan Prescott) left badly scarred, made waves among viewers.

Ryan spoke to Express.co.uk about the "harrowing" storyline at this year's TV Choice Awards, admitting: "You really lean on the people that are surrounding you... to get through the day".
Meanwhile, Charlotte Jordan - who was playing Ryan's secret love interest Daisy Midgeley at the time - won in the Best Dramatic Performance category.
Elsewhere in Corrie, Maureen Lipman won the Best Comedy Performance award for her role as notoriously straight-talking Evelyn Plumber.
With numerous categories across the board, who will win at this year's informal version of the British Soap Awards - and will Roy Cropper (David Neilson) being framed for murder loom large this time around?
The 2024 British Soap Awards were cancelled for an undisclosed reason by ITV but they will return for 2025.
