Frank Lampard in line for new job but ex-Chelsea boss may have to swallow his pride
Former Chelsea, Everton and Derby head coach Frank Lampard is reportedly in the frame to take over as Burnley boss as Vincent Kompany’s successor. The Belgian is in Germany to ink a contract taking him to Bayern Munich, after failing to keep the Clarets in the Premier League.
In today's (Tuesday, May 28) edition of the Daily Mirror it is claimed that Lampard and ex-Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper are on Burnley owner Alan Pace’s shortlist to take over. Kompany’s right-hand man Craig Bellamy is also an option after he decided against joining the Manchester City icon at Bayern, with eyes firmly set on a top job either at Burnley or elsewhere.
Lampard specifically appeals to Pace as a big name that could attract a host of talented players who are keen to work with the Premier League Hall of Famer, while Burnley are attempting to widen their global appeal.

Since Derby’s defeat in the 2019 play-off final to Aston Villa, Lampard has worked exclusively in the Premier League. Initially on his return to Chelsea, he led the Blues to a fourth-placed finish before being sacked in January 2021.

Lampard had a spell back at Chelsea as interim boss when Graham Potter was let go by the new Clearlake decision-makers, but has been out of a job over the past 12 months as he bided his time and waited for the right project to emerge.
If Lampard’s ambitions are to coach against some of the top teams in the country, that opportunity may only be afforded to him via promotion from the Championship with a team such as Burnley.
