Dallas’ Asier Illarramendi scored the game’s first goal on a long-distance shot from the left side in first-half stoppage time, as RSL goalkeeper Zac MacMath committed an error on the play. MacMath appeared ready to punch the ball away with both fists before apparently changing his mind and trying to catch it, but it went off his hands and into the net.

Patrickson Delgado scored in the 57th minute to make it 2-0, and Paul Arriola scored in the 59th, with an assist from Illarramendi, for a 3-0 Dallas lead.
