Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou blasted his own "fragile" club and lamented the team's foundations in the aftermath of their 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City. Spurs' Champions League hopes were ended by two Erling Haaland goals as the visitors to north London put one hand on the Premier League title.

A frustrated Postecoglou fumed and promised that big changes were on the horizon for Spurs in a series of explosive interviews and his press conference, as the first season under the Australian boss nears its conclusion.

"The foundations are really fragile," Postecoglou admitted. "The last 48 hours have shown me that. It's inside the club, outside the club. It's been an interesting exercise. It's just my observations mate. I'm the one who's got to do it.

"You can make your own assessments of what's happened. I understand. I probably misread the situation as to what I think is important in your endeavour to become a winning team, but that's ok. That's why I'm here. I already know what I want to do, it's just I've got to make some adjustments to how I do it."

Spurs were aware that victory over City would have given them a hope of finishing in the top four, but also hand an advantage to neighbours Arsenal in the title race.

After Haaland's late penalty lifted the weight off the visitors and effectively confirmed three points, chants of "Are you watching Arenal?" rang around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But Postecoglou was far from impressed, who passionately stated before the match that his intention was very much to play as usual and go for the win. "Not interested mate, I don't care, I just want to build a winning team," he replied when asked if he had any feelings towards the chants.

When asked how his side measure up to defending champions City, Postecoglou added to the BBC: "Nothing earth shattering that I didn't know before the game. We still have some work to do. We need to do some work to catch up.

"We lost the game so I am disappointed. [Any pride to take?] Not right now because we have lost. We will assess the season, still one more game to go, one more game against Sheffield United and we need to make sure we win. I think wherever you finish is a fair reflection of where you are at."

Spurs have qualified for the Europa League but could still drop to seventh on the final day of the season with defeat against bottom team Sheffield United if Newcastle and Chelsea both win their final two games.
