BBC Bargain Hunt's Catherine Southon in 'serious trouble' as team 'bring home the bacon'

BH: Blue team pass on opportunity to buy pig garden statue

Bargain Hunt fans were delighted while watching Thursday's show as they flooded social media with pig puns. One expert found herself in hot water, while the other "brought home the bacon".

BBC presenter Christina Trevanion welcomed friends Vicky and Diane on the red team, meanwhile, David and Merryn made up the blue team. The contestants were given some valuable advice while they had £300 and an hour to spend on antique goodies.

Helping them out today were experts Catherine Southon and Kate Bliss as they went antique hunting in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, before heading to the auction at Lichfield in Staffordshire. As always, the winning team were whoever made the highest profit, so they were on the lookout for the biggest bargains.

The expert on the red team joked that they were "in serious trouble" as the contestants changed their minds about an item. They were eyeing up some stone cats when they realised that they preferred some lions that they had spotted earlier.

Deciding to do a U-turn, Vicky realised that they hadn't bothered to haggle the price on their earlier item. Dianne added: "I think the lions would be my first choice."

Panicked and short of time, Catherine asked: "You liked those? Can you remember where those were? We've got ten minutes... ready?"

They started running as she added: "If they are gone, we are in serious trouble!"

Meanwhile, the blues managed to find themselves a bit of a porker - a fibreglass shop display model of a Gloucester Old Spot pig, which they bought for £99.

But fans on Twitter didn't seem impressed with the purchase and instead used it as an opportunity to make some meaty puns. One user said: "They won’t make a sausage on that pig #bargainhunt."

Another added: "Going the whole hog on that pig.. #bargainhunt." Meanwhile, a third added: "They’re gonna get smoked buying that pig #bargainhunt."

Much to the viewers' amazement, as the pig gained a porky profit as it sold for a staggering £240.
