James May in brutal two-word retort as he announces move away from Clarkson and Hammond

James May introduces his new YouTube channel

Former Top Gear star James May has unveiled a new career move away from his regular roles on motoring shows with Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson. The presenter has decided to start his own solo YouTube channel, which launched at the start of May.

In his first video introducing the channel, James, who recently called for a new car series after the end of the trio's hit show The Grand Tour, said: “Hello drinkers, you have just landed on James May’s Planet Gin. The official YouTube channel of JamesGin.com.

“It is a YouTube channel in that it’s on YouTube, it’s not a YouTube channel in that it’s not going to follow the YouTube norms.” The 61-year-old told watchers he won’t be telling people to 'like, comment and subscribe' all the time."

James continued: “That’s just too needy for a person in my position and of my age.” Giving people a glimpse at what they can expect, James played a small teaser clip of him preparing to cook a dish.

He also posted a snippet of himself in a car park wearing headphones in front of a laptop, teasing that he’ll be talking about the dangers of something. James continued: “As I was saying earlier on, I don’t really care if you like or you comment or you subscribe or do any of those things.

“Watch it if you fancy it, if you don’t? There’s not going to be that much on there.

“I’m not going to be feeding the beast because Gin just isn’t that interesting.

“I’m going to put something up there when it occurs to me and I can be ar**d". In a cheeky two-word retort to his naysayers, James concluded by saying: "If you don't like that, sod off.”

In the description box, James continued to mock the reasons for starting up a channel as he told people: "Even washing machine spares have one."

He confessed people shouldn’t get their hopes up for regular updates from the star, as he’ll only be posting sporadically when he has a good idea.

The channel was created at the beginning of April, although his first video didn’t get published until the start of May.

Already, James has managed to gain an impressive 11,000 subscribers within his debut video going live within 24 hours.

However, it’s not the first time James has been part of a YouTube channel, as many fans will remember his various cameos in the ‘What Next’ videos.
