Beyond Paradise fans 'demand exit' as they rage at character after 'disappointing' finale

Beyond Paradise: Martha and Humphrey decide not to get married

Beyond Paradise fans have questioned the future of one character after the series finale. The BBC crime drama aired its final episode of series two on Friday evening (April 27) which saw Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd's (Sally Bretton) highly-anticipated wedding day arrive.

Things didn't go to plan however, and the couple decided against tying the knot. Following the finale, viewers pondered whether Martha is the right fit for Humphrey, with some even claiming that she should be replaced.

Writing on a Facebook group, one fan said: "I don't know why, but I can't warm up to Martha. There's something about her that gives me less than warm feelings."

The post garnered plenty of attention as another viewer responded: "A very good actress but not right for this part... needs someone more 'bouncy'."

A second agreed: "I'm the same. She's so uncaring, treats Humphrey so badly, she should have left with her ex when she cheated! Thinks only of herself. Humphrey would still be fab in the program without her, I really can't see her with kids!"

"I'm so pleased someone's finally said it. I agree with you 100%. I thought she was great in Not Going Out but the way she acts this character just doesn't fit in," added a third.

Echoing this, another commented: "I think you have a point and somehow she isn't a great fit. I think Matha was his rebound because he was so heartbroken over Camille. Our gorgeous Humphrey met Martha at a very vulnerable time as was still raw and just wanted to be loved. I think she doesn't really love him the way she should but wanted a family."

Meanwhile a fifth declared: "I'm not a fan of hers either, I like Esther best." It comes after viewers were left feeling "betrayed" by the series finale. Fans have been rooting for Humphrey and Martha since their early Death in Paradise days.

Eight years later, viewers finally thought they were about to witness Martha and Humphrey walk down the aisle until they called the wedding off. The couple remain stronger than ever however, and are looking towards fostering Ryan.

This didn't stop fans from raging at the scenes as one fumed: "I wanted to see the wedding, the speeches, first dance, and vows, I feel betrayed, beyond betrayed #BeyondParadise."

"Disappointed that there wasn't a wedding. Just a very poor ending," another penned on X. Meanwhile a third echoed: "That was a disappointing end to series 2. Nothing has moved forward since the very first episode."
