Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola gave winger Jeremy Doku a public dressing down as he launched into a stern discussion with the Belgian immediately after the full-time whistle blew on their win over Brighton. The visitors won 4-0 at the AMEX Stadium, but Guardiola was far from happy despite the thumping.

Doku was a 78th-minute substitute, on for Bernardo Silva, and had little time to add to the scoreline but Guardiola was furious with him and made his displeasure known in front of the departing home fans on the south coast.

Guardiola was seemingly unimpressed with Doku giving the ball away twice in his short cameo and made his feelings known. After briefly hugging the tricky winger, Guardiola then shouted at his player and held up two fingers to point out that he had twice squandered possession.

It is far from the first time that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich head coach has used the aftermath of a big game to convey his opinion to a member of the squad, most notably to Jack Grealish and Joshua Kimmich in the past.

After City's goalless drew with Premier League title rivals Arsenal last month, Guardiola was spotted in an animated discussion with Grealish, another second-half substitute.

When asked for the reason for his on-field disputes rather than solve any issues in the dressing room, Guardiola joked that his "ego" caused the confrontations.

“I do it for the cameras, for my ego,” the City boss said. “I’m the famous person of the team, if it’s on camera then I can sleep because I have incredible satisfaction. I always try to criticise the players there and let them know how bad they are.

“When Erling (Haaland) scores three goals, the compliments have to be with me, not with them, that’s why I use the cameras to do it. My advice next time is; don’t film us and it will not be a problem.”

A Phil Foden brace either side of goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Julian Alvarez was enough to see out a comfortable win away to Brighton, moving City one point behind league leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.
